Samsung’s Secure Folder app has shown up online and it’s now available for download, though it is in the form of the APK file so the app will have to be side-loaded if you’re looking to get your hands on it. That being said you can grab the app from the button down below if you’re interested in trying it out, but it should be noted that there are a couple of pre-requisites to using this app successfully, not the least of which is having a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, with the other being that either of those devices will also need to be running Android 7.0 Nougat software for the app to work.
Samsung’s Secure Folder app is meant to assist users in keeping sensitive data, other types of files, and apps safe. With Secure Folder, users can take apps, pictures, data files and sensitive work documents and place them all in Secure Folder to keep them protected from anyone that shouldn’t have access to the data, and it’s password protected so once it’s locked up the only way to access any of that information is to have the password to unlock it. Secure Folder originally debuted on the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, and Samsung had every intention of launching the app for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge as well. In fact, they still have plans to release the app officially but were waiting until after the devices had been updated to Android 7.0 Nougat.
Not all Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge devices likely have Nougat yet even though the update started back in January, so there might still be a little bit of a wait before Samsung officially releases the app, which should surface in the Play Store as well as the Galaxy Apps store. Samsung hasn’t given an official time frame for the legitimate release of Secure Folder on the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge so users who have either device with the Nougat software installed will want to keep an eye out for it. Samsung is also slated to launch this app with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus once those two devices launch in the future, which is expected to be sometime this Spring.
