The Android 7.0 Nougat rollout for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge is expanding to more countries. Recent reports suggest that the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer started pushing out the update to the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge in some parts of Europe, as well as the Middle East. As expected, the latest major iteration of Google’s operating system is being pushed out as an over-the-air (OTA) update and is approximately 1.5GB in size, so you’ll need to make sure you have enough storage space available on your device before you attempt to download and install it. Also, it’s recommended your device is connected to a Wi-Fi network and charging during the update process. As for the update itself, owners of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge in Europe and the Middle East can expect to receive a notification prompting them to download Nougat in the coming days. Those who are feeling impatient may try to scan for the update manually by opening their Settings app, tapping “About device,” and selecting the “Download updates manually” option.
Samsung already started pushing out the Android Nougat update to the unlocked variants of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge in January, but the company still has a lot of countries to cover. In fact, recent reports suggest that the global rollout may not be completed before the second quarter of the year, and that’s not counting the locked versions of the two devices that wireless carriers are responsible for updating. However, some mobile service providers were relatively quick to optimize Samsung’s Android Nougat build for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge and have already started pushing it out to their users. For example, both AT&T and T-Mobile are currently rolling out the Nougat update for Samsung’s 2016 flagship duo in the United States.
Both the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge are expected to receive at least one more major iteration of Android before the end of their life cycles. Samsung’s pair of flagships may also soon receive Bixby, the company’s upcoming AI assistant that’s slated to debut with the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus in April.
