Honor’s latest smartphone is finally beginning to receive its beta update to Android 7.0 Nougat. The Honor 6X, which the company launched at CES last month in Las Vegas, was launched with Android Marshmallow, which left many people puzzled. The company came out and later said that they would be launching Nougat for the device within the first quarter (which ends March 31st). Today, Honor began sending out the update to users in Pakistan (alongside the Huawei Nova Plus), but it’s unclear if the update is heading to users in other countries just yet.
The update to Android 7.0 Nougat should be pretty similar to what the company has launched on their flagship devices, the Honor 8 and Huawei Mate 9. Both of which have EMUI 5.0 which is a pretty large update to the device. That brings in a mostly redesigned interface for the Honor 6X, and also makes some settings easier to get too, as they are no longer hidden under multiple layers. Additionally, you’ll get more quick settings, which are still customizable, and battery life will be even better. Now that right there is pretty impressive for the Honor 6X, considering it already has pretty incredible battery life, thanks to its 3430mAh battery that is inside. Honor says that you can get around two days from that battery, and with Nougat, you should be able to get even more out of it.
The Honor 6X is the company’s budget smartphone, coming in at just $249. It’s a good $150 below the Honor 8, which is a smaller but more high-end device from Honor. The Honor 6X sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display, their Kirin 655 processor along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. There is a micro SD card slot available for expanding storage as well. As we already mentioned there is a 3430mAh battery, which is non-removable. All of this is in an aluminum unibody which looks quite nice, especially for a smartphone in this price range. Now this is an unlocked device so it will work on T-Mobile and AT&T. It’s a great choice for anyone that’s not looking to pay a ton for a new smartphone, and with Nougat, it’s going to be even better.
