Ahead of their press conference on Sunday, it appears that the Huawei Watch 2 has leaked, showing just about every angle of the new smartwatch and it appears to be a bit more sporty than the original smartwatch, which the company unveiled two years ago at Mobile World Congress. As you can see in the pictures below, the watch has a much larger bezel, the bezel is also recessed, likely to protect the screen a bit more. There are also two buttons on the right side, and there’s a nice looking silicon watch band to go along with it. It’s definitely a big difference from the original Huawei Watch, which was not sporty at all. Now it’s currently unclear if there will be two models, perhaps a traditional or classic model and a sport model or not.
According to VentureBeat, this new smartwatch will have cellular connectivity, and there is even a SIM card slot located where the strap connects to the watch. Which likely means that this will be sold as an unlocked smartwatch, that you can use on a carrier network of your choosing. It’s a bit of an interesting placement, and it’s out of the way, which is nice as it doesn’t mess with the design too much. VentureBeat has speculated that this smartwatch will be more in competition with the LG Watch Sport than the LG Watch Style, since the Watch Sport does do cellular connectivity and the Style does not.
It appears that this smartwatch will come in at least three colors, orange, black and a speckled gray. That’s somewhat similar to what Lenovo did with the Moto 360 Sport back in 2015 – although Huawei is missing a white model here. The Huawei Watch 2 has been teased by Huawei lately on their social media channels and will definitely be a star of their press conference come Sunday, along with the much rumored Huawei P10 smartphone. It’s unclear what many of the details are of their smartwatch, but it is likely going to be an Android Wear 2.0 device, despite some earlier rumors noting that they may drop Android Wear in favor of Samsung’s Tizen platform.
