Inbox by Gmail looks set to gain a couple of new features soon. One is a smarter way to display emails, while the other is an option to sort emails. At the moment, there is no information on when these features will go live in the Inbox app, as their existence has only been spotted at the code level by Android Police, during a recent app teardown.
In terms of the smarter displaying of emails, this certainly seems to be the more interesting of the two noted features. While this is a feature which seemingly looks to fix an issue many may not have even considered, this could be an extremely useful feature for those who like Inbox’s smarter way of email management. Essentially, when you currently open Inbox, like any other email client, you are typically presented with a list of your emails with each email listing displaying a brief amount of text – a quick view of the email which normally consists of the first line or two of content. This is what will be changing, as the code observations noted, suggest that Google is looking to employ some of its ‘intelligence’ tricks to identify the most important aspects of an email. Once the focus of the email has been identified, it is this information that will then show up in replace of the opening narrative. For those who are not so keen on this, or do not like the idea of important aspects of an email being visible on the app’s front page, it seems the user will be able to decide whether they want the feature turned on or not, by way of a toggle.
The other feature noted, sorting, is much more of a smaller feature and at the moment, there is very little information available on this one. The sum of what is know is that a new button will be included which will allow for sorting. As mentioned, neither of these features are currently live for Inbox, however, if you do want to be running the latest version of the app, version 1.41, then you can download the APK and sideload it to your device manually, through the link below.
