LG G6 Will Sport Wide-Angle Cameras, LG Confirms

The LG G6 will sport a wide-angle camera, the South Korean consumer electronics manufacturer announced on Monday. The company’s next flagship will apparently have a 125-degree shooting angle and the dual camera setup on its back will shoot pictures and videos in 18:9 format that will fit the unconventional screen of the device. The front camera of the LG G6 will also be able to operate in a new wide-angle mode boasting a 100-degree shooting angle, LG revealed. The Seoul-based tech giant also announced that the default Camera app of the LG G6 will support a number of selfie filters. Finally, the default Gallery app that will be pre-installed on the device will allow users to create GIFs by simply selecting a number of their images and letting the phone’s software perform its magic. A visual representation depicting the shooting angles of the LG G6 can be seen below.

The South Korean phone maker already confirmed that it will officially unveil the LG G6 in the run-up to this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). LG’s next smartphone will be announced on Sunday, February 26, and the company will presumably allow the media some hands-on time with the device during MWC. The LG G6 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 821 system-on-chip (SoC), the very same SoC that’s powering the Google Pixel, Pixel XL, and the HTC U Ultra. Latest industry rumors suggest that LG’s first 2017 flagship is fueled by a 2016 SoC due to the fact that Samsung caused an industry-wide shortage of the Snapdragon 835 as LG’s domestic rival is apparently stockpiling the chip for the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus. Meanwhile, LG is looking to beat Samsung’s upcoming flagships to the market with the LG G6, which is why the company opted to equip its smartphone with the Snapdragon 821.

The LG G6 will also reportedly boast 4GB of RAM and 5.7-inch display panel featuring a resolution of 2880 by 1440 pixels. Recent reports suggest that the LG Pay mobile payments service won’t debut with the LG G6 and that the device will feature a durable, waterproof build. More information on the smartphone is bound to follow this weekend once the LG G6 is officially announced.
