Today at MWC 2017, Huawei unveiled the Huawei P10 and Huawei P10 Plus. Generally speaking, the two smartphones are largely cut from the same cloth and do sport a very similar design, build quality and spec breakdown. With the big selling point for both smartphones being the emphasis on their rear dual camera setup, a product of the company’s partnership with Leica, and continuing the trend set by last year’s Huawei P9 and the Huawei Mate 9. However, the rear dual cameras on this year’s models have been upgraded to offer an even richer camera-focused experience than before, including new software modes. Adding to the improvements to the rear cameras, Huawei has also confirmed that the selfie side of things has been improved as well. Most notably as the front-facing cameras are also now Leica cameras.
First up we have the Huawei P10. In terms of the specs, this is a smartphone that comes equipped with a 5.1-inch display with a 1920 x 1080 resolution. Inside, the Huawei P10 comes loaded with 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage and is powered by a Kirin 960 processor (clocking in at 2.3 GHz). On the camera side of things, the Huawei P10 comes packing the already-mentioned rear dual camera setup which is spearheaded by a 12-megapixel primary (RGB) camera that is accompanied by a 20-megapixel secondary (monochrome) camera. While the front facing camera comes in an 8-megapixel form. The Huawei P10 is powered by a 3,200 mAh battery and is capable of fast charging through the included USB Type-C port. Additional features worth noting is that the Huawei P10 comes with the necessary hardware for download speeds of up to 600Mbps and comes running on Android 7.0 (Nougat) out of the box, by way of EMUI 5.1.
Moving on to the Huawei P10 Plus and most of the hard specs are the same as what you will find with the Huawei P10. Which means this smartphone comes packing 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, a Kirin 960 processor and Android 7.0 (Nougat) out of the box. Along with the same 12-megapixel/10-megapixel and 8-megapixel rear/front camera configuration. However, where the differences lie is in the display and battery departments. The Huawei P10 Plus not only comes with a larger 5.5-inch display, but also a greater (2560 x 1440) resolution. Which also happens to be one of the defining differences between this model and last year’s P9 Plus. While the P9 Plus also did come with a 5.5-inch display, the resolution was only 1920 x 1080. Likewise, the battery has been boosted up to a 3,750 mAh capacity, and again, sports wired fast charging support via the USB Type-C port. Which is another notable upgrade from last year, as the P9 Plus came sporting a 3,400 mAh battery.
As for the availability of the two new smartphones, Huawei has confirmed that both smartphones will become available on and as to be expected, will differ slightly in price. The Huawei P10 will cost €649 in Europe, while the Huawei P10 Plus will cost €699 in Europe. During the launch, Huawei did confirm that both smartphones will become available in a number of other countries beginning in March.
