Mysterious LG Phone Receives Bluetooth Certification

A mysterious LG smartphone has recently received its Bluetooth certification, as revealed by a listing published on Thursday. The listed device bears the design name and model number “LG-Q10191” and is clearly classified as a phone made by LG Electronics that was assessed back in November, but that’s everything the certificate reveals.

Given the timing of this revelation, it’s possible that the device in question is the upcoming LG G6, the successor to LG’s 2016 modular flagship. The LG G6 is said to be unveiled at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 later this month and recent reports suggest that the South Korean tech giant is looking to launch its upcoming Android flagship as quickly as possible in order to beat the Galaxy S8 to the market. Given that state of affairs, LG likely already handled all of the necessary certification for the G6, meaning it’s possible that the listing which can be seen below refers to the company’s next high-end device. The Seoul-based phone maker reportedly believes that the LG G5 wasn’t a commercial success partially due to being late to the market, which is why its successor is expected to launch by early March, shortly after MWC 2017 wraps up.

The company is rumored to ditch the modular design and possibly even scrap the removable battery with the LG G6. LG’s next flagship is also said to be cheaper to manufacture than its predecessor, meaning that the South Korean tech giant is looking to record higher profit margins than it did with the LG G5. The firm’s mobile division hasn’t been doing great in recent years and is hoping to recoup some of the previous losses it incurred by being one of the first manufacturers to release a premium phone in 2017. The LG G6 is rumored to be powered by the Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip and 6GB of RAM, in addition to boasting a 5.7-inch QHD display. The device is also expected to ship with Android Nougat. More information on LG’s upcoming flagship will likely follow soon as MWC 2017 is scheduled to start on February 27 and most reports suggest that the LG G6 will make an appearance at the Barcelona-based trade show.
