While LG demonstrated a lot of ambition with the LG G5, a 5.3-inch flagship boasting an innovative modular design, consumers haven’t rewarded the company’s attempt to innovate in the smartphone space. Given how the LG G5 failed to achieve a notable level of commercial success, the South Korean tech giant is now reportedly planning to go back to a traditional design philosophy with the LG G6. Most industry sources are claiming that the company’s upcoming flagship will feature a non-modular design as the Seoul-based phone maker will apparently focus on delivering a better user experience through improved hardware and leave less conventional features to other Android OEMs.
All in all, LG is hoping that the LG G6 will be a commercial success and help the company recoup some of the losses incurred by the LG G5. In fact, according to a recent report from South Korea, the Seoul-based tech giant is looking to gain any possible advantage over its competitors. This endeavor will reportedly result in the LG G6 being released a month earlier than what was originally planned. Sources close to the company are claiming that LG is looking to launch the LG G6 by early March, if not a bit sooner. This change in schedule was allegedly mainly prompted by the fact that Samsung is pushing back the release of the Galaxy S8 which is rumored to launch around April. Provided this report is accurate, the new LG G6 release window would coincide with the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2017. Given how LG often opted to reveal its premium devices during the said annual trade show in Barcelona, this report indicates that the company is possibly planning to release the LG G6 shortly after unveiling it in late February. Of course, another possibility is that LG will announce the phone before MWC and release it just as the trade shows kicks off on February 27th.
Finally, industry sources claim that LG’s executives believe the LG G5 was too late to the market, which is another important factor that allegedly influenced the decision to release the LG G6 earlier in the year.
