More than 80 new Pokemon are coming to Pokemon GO later this week, The Pokemon Company International and Niantic Labs announced on Wednesday. In addition to a wide variety of new pocket monsters, the latest Pokemon GO update will also introduce a number of new gameplay mechanics and features to the game. Among other things, the popular augmented reality (AR) game will soon boast new types of Berries, Evolution items, outfits, and accessories, while also introducing revamped encounter mechanics. The new content update for Pokemon GO will start rolling out globally in the coming days and should be available for download from the Google Play Store by the end of the week.
Over 80 new pocket monsters that are soon being added to the game have originally been introduced in Pokemon Gold and Pokemon Silver, meaning trainers will soon be able to catch more Johto-based Pokemon after some of them already debuted in Pokemon GO back in December. The list of new additions includes the likes of Cyndaquil, Totodile, and Chikorita, all of which will expand the constantly growing pool of creatures offered by Pokemon GO. The Evolution items mentioned above will allow players to evolve their existing pets into new pocket monsters from the Johto region. For example, Eevee will now be able to evolve into Umbreon and Espeon. The two new Berries that are being added to the game are called the Nanab Berry and the Pinap Berry. While the former allows you to slow down a Pokemon you’re trying to catch, the latter will net you twice as many Candies if you perform a successful catch. As expected, players will be able to purchase all of the new items from the Pokemon GO shop, in addition to being able to earn them by visiting Poke Stops and completing certain tasks.
John Hanke, Chief Executive Officer of Niantic Labs said that this update is just the latest step in the company’s endeavor to turn Pokemon GO into a comprehensive Pokemon game suitable for all types of players. The San Francisco-based developer is expected to launch more major content updates for its popular mobile game in the coming months.
