The Xiaomi Mi 6 might use an underclocked version of the Snapdragon 835 SoC, at least according to the latest rumor from China. As many of you probably already know, Samsung is allegedly taking the whole first batch of the Snapdragon 835 SoCs for the launch of their Galaxy S8 flagship which is expected to happen in March or April. Because of this, some smartphone manufacturers might have to wait to use the Snapdragon 821 in their devices, which is why LG is rumored to ship their G6 flagship with the Snapdragon 821 instead of the Snapdragon 835.
Well, if this rumor is to be believed, Xiaomi might use a clocked down version of the Snapdragon 835 in order in order to release the device on time, though that doesn’t make all that much sense, if Samsung is taking the whole first batch of the Snapdragon 835 SoCs, how will Xiaomi get any of them, underclocked or not? It is possible that Xiaomi plans to use an underclocked version of the Snapdragon 835 in the Xiaomi Mi 6, the Xiaomi Mi 5 did use an underclocked version of the Snapdragon 820 after all, so it makes sense, though chances are that the Mi 6 will launch either with the Snapdragon 821, or it will ship way after the Galaxy S8, at least if a recent report is to be believed. Do keep in mind that it has not been confirmed that Samsung will grab the whole first batch of Snapdragon 835 SoCs, so it would be wise to take all this info with a grain of salt.
The Xiaomi Mi 6 is the company’s upcoming flagship, and a direct successor to the Xiaomi Mi 5 which landed back in February last year during the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016. The Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to ship in a couple of variants, just like the Xiaomi Mi 5, though unlike the Mi 5, the Xiaomi Mi 6 could ship in two SoC variants, the most affordable model could be available with the Helio X30 SoC, while its standard and high-end variants are said to come with the Snapdragon 835 SoC. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on the Mi 6, and MIUI 8 OS will be available on top of Google’s operating system, considering that the MIUI 9 probably won’t be available until H2 this year.
