The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is the most powerful smartphone Sony opted to announce today, as part of their MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017 press conference. This handset is a blend between the Sony Xperia X Premium and Xperia XZ, and is the company’s new flagship basically. The Xperia XZ Premium comes with a 5.5-inch 4K TRILUMINOS display, which actually functions similar to the 4K display that Sony introduced on the Xperia X Premium back in February last year, during MWC 2016. This means that it will reproduce fullHD (1920 x 1080) content most of the time, but if necessary, it can bump that up all the way to 4K, just in case you decide to watch a 4K movie or something of the sort.
The Sony Xperia XZ Premium offers 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card. The device is fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor, along with the Adreno 540 GPU. One of the most important aspects of the Xperia XZ Premium is the phone’s camera. This device comes equipped with Sony’s 19-megapixel (custom Exmor RS IMX300 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, PDAF, multi-frame noise reduction algorithm) camera with 5-axis OIS. RGB color sensor and distance sensor are also a part of the Xperia XZ Premium’s camera experience, and the camera comes with a 6P element lens. It’s also worth mentioning that this is the world’s first 3 layer mobile sensor, according to Sony, and the device is capable of 25Gbps transfer rate from sensor to memory thanks to what Sony calls ‘Motion Eye Sensor’. The Xperia XZ Premium can capture 960fps slow motion video in 1080p resolution, and it also comes equipped with predictive capture, which means it can capture 4 photos 2 seconds before you press the shutter button. The phone will give you an option to choose between those shots, so that you can get that perfect shot. On top of all this, the Xperia XZ Premium comes with high-speed anti-distortion shutter, which should keep images from being warped when they’re moving fast. A 13-megapixel shooter can be found on the front side of this smartphone, and this is also an Exmor RS sensor we’re looking at here. The phone’s front-facing camera packs in a 22mm wide angle lens, and we’re looking at an f/2.0 aperture here.
The Xperia XZ Premium offers high-res audio as well, LDAC, DSEE HX and S-Force virtual front surround on the device. The device can automatically adjust sound with basically any headphones you decide to use. The Xperia XZ Premium comes with IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, and it has seamless loop unibody design, its antennas are placed on both top and bottom of the device. Machine learning is also a part of the package when it comes to the Xperia XZ Premium, as the device can provide predictive settings when you turn on stamina mode, and it can also bring suggesting for brightness, contrast and a number of other settings. Sony also included the Qnovo adaptive charging here, which gives you an option to set the phone to charge the last 10% of the battery until an hour before the next alarm is set. Speaking of the battery, this phone is equipped with a 3,230mAh unit, which is not removable, and comes with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging tech. 4G LTE is also a part of this package, of course, and we’re looking at Cat. 16 LTE here, while you’ll use the phone’s USB Type-C 3.1 port in order to charge the phone. Android 7.1 Nougat comes pre-installed on the device, with Sony’s custom UI on top of it. The device will ship in both single SIM and dual SIM variants, and you’ll need at least one nano SIM card in order to use it in its full capacity, as we’re looking at nano SIM card slot(s) here. NFC is also included in the package, and a Type-C USB 3.1 port is placed on the bottom of this smartphone. The device measures 156 x 77 x 7.9mm, while it comes in Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black color variants. The Xperia XZ Premium will become available in the Spring, though we still don’t know when exactly.
