Dutch wearable maker TomTom Sports announced the TomTom Touch Cardio, its latest fitness-oriented affordable wearable. Corinne Vigreux, Managing Director at TomTom Consumer said that the TomTom Touch Cardio is aimed at people who want to stay in shape simply by doing everyday tasks like walking and carrying groceries. TomTom wanted to cater to this audience with the TomTom Touch Cardio, the latest addition to the company’s TomTom Touch lineup. So, while not primarily designed as a fitness tracker for people who already have a strict fitness schedule they stick to, the TomTom Touch Cardio might convince more people to do so as this wearable will attempt to motivate users to adopt a more healthy lifestyle by showing them how much certain activities impact their overall fitness.
TomTom’s latest fitness band can track steps and burned calories and ships with an integrated heart rate monitor. The wearable is also capable of tracking sleeping patterns and general activity. The TomTom Touch Cardio constantly provides insight into your overall health and its internal components and features were designed to complement each other. For example, the calorie tracker uses the device’s integrated heart rate monitor to calculate burned calories more accurately. The wearable itself was designed as a regular band and comes in several colors which can be seen above, unlike the original TomTom Touch which the Dutch consumer electronics manufacturer launched in September.
The TomTom Touch Cardio is scheduled to be released at some point in March. The device will be priced at approximately $90 and is expected to launch in both North America and Europe. Just like its predecessor, the TomTom Touch Cardio is compatible with the TomTom Sports Android app which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store free of charge. Apart from providing users with a plethora of tracking activities, the app also boasts numerous social features. TomTom’s mobile offering supports a broad range of different activities and is relatively simple to use, as evidenced by the promotional video below. Overall, it seems like TomTom Sports is adamant to continue with its strategy of releasing simple and affordable wearables aimed at the average consumer.
