Weekly Poll: Do You Agree With Rumored Prices For LG's New Watches?

LG is poised to launch the LG Watch Sport and the LG Watch Style in partnership with Google on February 9th according to the rumors, and there have been a handful of leaks that have talked about the specs as well as shown off the design so consumers will mostly know what to expect when it comes to the new devices. Some of the more recent developments have been rumors focusing on the cost of each watch, and it’s now rumored that the LG Watch Style will come in at $249 while the LG Watch Sport will be more expensive and come in at a cost of $349, likely due to its more rugged design and build, although it won’t be completely clear what the reason for the price hike is until Google and LG unveil both watches. While $249 and $349 aren’t the most expensive smartwatches around, do you agree with both costs?

One thing to consider, at least for the LG Watch Style, is that $249 has been referred to as the starting price which suggests that Google and LG will have different variations of the watch that will cause the cost to go up. These might not necessarily be models with different specs, but rather customizations like different colors for the watch case, which have already been leaked in silver and rose gold, or other custom details like what was found on the Moto 360 2nd Gen. Whatever the case may be, if $249 is the starting price then the cost will only go up depending on what the consumer wants, and it’s likely that the same thing could be true for the LG Watch Sport.

As stated above, $249 and $349 would not make these the most expensive smartwatches, but they could be fairly expensive for the market that they’re trying to target, and especially in this day and age when the costs of other smart devices are starting to come down yet still offer high-end and excellent mid-range hardware specs. It’s also worth noting that with the lack of popularity for Android Wear right now compared to back in 2015, a lower cost on watches like these might light a fire under customers and spark more interest. With Android Wear 2.0 expected to be unveiled at the same as these two new smartwatches, with both devices being rumored to be the first with the software, the LG Watch Style and the LG Watch Sport will likely be popular to a point, but the question is how popular, and whether or not Google and LG might have more luck of pushing these to high success if the costs were set lower.
