The LG Watch Sport is one of two new smartwatches that is expected to be formally introduced next week by LG and Google. The latest news coming through on the LG Watch Sport, is that this particular model will retail in the US for $349. This is according to a new report that has now emerged from Android Police and accredits ‘a trusted source’ with the information. The $349 price follows on from a similar report which came through last week which looked to confirm that the other incoming smartwatch, the LG Watch Style, would retail for $249 in the US, $100 less. It is worth pointing out that this price is expected to be for the base model and therefore, any additional variations or customizations which are announced could up the price, accordingly. So it should be expected that the $349 will be for the ‘standard’ LG Watch Sport, much like $249 will be for the ‘standard’ LG Watch Style. Providing of course, the reported source information is correct.
While the two smartwatches are expected to adopt a number of common features including Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, running on Android Wear 2.0, and a ‘rotatable crown button’ to assist with on-screen navigation, there are going to be some notable differences which do dictate that the Watch Sport will be the more premium option. Firstly, the more-expensive Watch Sport is expected to come with LTE cellular connectivity and NFC. Which will mean that of the two watches, only the Watch Sport will be able to be used in a standalone fashion and/or make use of Android Pay. In addition, the Watch Sport is expected to come with a heart rate sensor, as well as a larger (1.38-inch) display, a greater (480 x 480) resolution, a higher (768MB) RAM level, and a greater capacity (430 mAh) battery. That is in addition to 4GB storage and an IP68 dust and waterproof certification.
While all of this information, including the specs, pricing and availability, are still only rumors at the moment, the collective information, as well as the images that have come through so far, do paint quite a good overall picture of what will be on offer with the LG Watch Sport and Style. In either case, the current understanding is that both watches will be introduced on Feb. 9 and will quickly move from announced to available in the following days. So much of what has been rumored over the past couple of weeks will likely be confirmed or corrected in the next week or so.
