Xiaomi has just launched its latest product, and it comes in the form of the Xiaomi Child Wristwatch. Just like its name suggests, the watch is meant for kids, and it also happens to be a smartwatch. Since it is a smartwatch, it comes with a display, which measures 1.44-inch in size. The display supports modular touch interface, which is suitable for kids. The straps for the new smartwatch is made out of food-grade silicone, making the strap waterproof. The straps come in a wide-range of colors, and they are also replaceable, allowing users to purchase any 18mm straps to replace the default one.
When it comes to internals, the Xiaomi Child Wristwatch packs pretty decent specs, including MediaTek’s custom low-power chip to fuel the smartwatch, thought the exact model is not yet known. On top of that, the smartwatch packs connectivity options such as GPS, Wi-Fi and a gravity sensor. Keeping the lights on is a small 420mAh battery which Xiaomi says will provide up to 4 days of battery life on a single charge. However, the main highlight of this device is a “security boundary feature”, which is supported by the device. This will enable parents or guardians to keep tabs on their children. If a kid goes out of a designated area (which can be set up beforehand), parents or guardians will be informed about. Movement of kids can also be tracked via the built-in GPS. Also, the Xiaomi Child Wristwatch can act as a standalone smartwatch, allowing users to insert a SIM card into it and use it as a phone. The Xiaomi Child Wristwatch is now available in China, though it is unlikely it will make it to other markets, at least for the time-being. It is priced pretty competitively, currently retailing for 179 Yuan ($26).
The Xiaomi Child Wristwatch is part of Xiaomi’s growing lineup of smart home products, and the smartwatch happens to be the company’s 61st smart home product. The company is widely known in China for its smart home ecosystem, which consists of products ranging from air purifiers, to vacuum cleaners, and even a musical instrument. The musical instrument came in the form of the Populele, and it was launched alongside the Xiaomi Child Wristwatch. It is actually a smart Ukulele and you can read more about it here.
