Along with announcing their first processor today, the Pinecone Surge S1, Xiaomi has also announced their first smartphone powered by this chip, the Xiaomi Mi 5c. We’ve already talked about the Pinecone Surge S1 at length, and it’s time to pay some attention to the company’s all-new smartphone. The Xiaomi Mi 5c is a metal-clad smartphone, which is quite thin, and it resembles the Xiaomi Mi 5, at least when you look at it from the front side. This is a mid-range handset, and it comes with a physical home key below the display which doubles as a fingerprint scanner.
The device’s power / lock key is placed on the right, and so are the volume up and volume down keys. Company’s branding can be found on the back of the Xiaomi Mi 5c, and its loudspeaker is placed on the bottom, next to the Type-C USB port. The Xiaomi Mi 5c sports a 5.15-inch JDI display, which can get pretty bright (550-nit brightness), and it has 2,048 brightness levels with ultra-precise backlight controls. Xiaomi did not specify the resolution of this display, but we’re almost certainly looking at a fullHD panel here. As already mentioned, this handset is fueled by the Pinecone Surge S1 processor, which is Xiaomi’s 64-bit octa-core chip, and it comes with ARM’s Mali-T860 MP4 GPU for graphics. The Xiaomi Mi 5c packs in 3GB of RAM (dual-channel LPDDR3) and 64GB of internal storage (eMMC 5.0).
A 12-megapixel shooter (1.25um pixel size) is placed on the back of the Xiaomi Mi 5c, and next o it, you’ll notice the LED flash sensor. A 2,860mAh battery is included here, and it is not removable, while you’re also getting 9V/2A fast charging here. The Xiaomi Mi 5c is quite light, it weighs only 132 grams, while it is also quite thin at 7.09mm. It is also worth mentioning that the Xiaomi Mi 5c’s side bezels are only 1.6mm thin, so the phone is quite narrow as well. The device si priced at 1,499 Yuan in China, which translates to $218.
