The Nextbit Robin is the latest Android smartphone to join the Android Nougat bandwagon. The company, who was recently acquired by Razer, has begun pushing out the update to Android 7.0 Nougat to all Robin smartphones. For those curious, the update comes with the January 5th, 2017 security patch, so it’s not quite the latest and greatest security patch, but it is fairly close. This is also OTA number 88, for those keeping track and while Nextbit hasn’t stated how large the OTA actually is, it’s pretty safe to assume that it is a large one. That is typically the case when you are updating to a new version of an OS, so you’ll want to be sure that you are on Wi-Fi before downloading, and also make sure you have plenty of battery left.
With the update to Nougat, Nextbit Robin users will be able to experience a few new features, and a slightly revamped UI. Considering the Nextbit Robin does sport a relatively stock version of Android, with most of the changes happening behind the scenes, due to its cloud nature. This means you’ll get the revamped notifications, which allows you to go ahead and bundle them together, but also unbundle them without jumping into the app. You’ll also see the new quick toggles that are in the notification shade. Not to mention some of the under-the-hood changes, like the improved Doze feature. Allowing you to get even better battery life, particularly on standby.
Those of you with the Nextbit Robin, you’ll be able to download the update today. Just head into the settings of your Robin, then tap on “About Phone” followed by “System Update” and then finally tap on the “Check for Updates” button to download the update. Despite being acquired by Razer, it is nice to see that Nextbit isn’t forgetting their early adopters who picked up the Robin. Although many are still waiting to see what Razer and Nextbit end up doing together, seeing as that is a pretty interesting acquisition for Razer.
