Android Nougat Update Hitting Unlocked Moto Z Play Units

The Android 7.0 Nougat update started hitting unlocked variants of the Moto Z Play in the United States, several owners of the device told Droid Life. As expected, the new package is being delivered as an over-the-air (OTA) update and is rolling out in stages, so it may be a while before you receive the notification prompting you to download and install it. Owners of the Moto Z Play who are feeling impatient may try scanning for the update manually by going to the Settings app of their phone and tapping the “About device” option on the bottom of the main menu. The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the unlocked variants of the Moto Z Play bears the label “NPN25.137-24-1” which is similar to the one featured by the package that Verizon recently pushed out.

Android 7.0 Nougat started rolling out to owners of the Moto Z Play in early February, but the latest major iteration of Google’s ubiquitous operating system is yet to be available on the device in all parts of the world. The package is a little over 1.1GB in size, so it’s recommended you only download it over a Wi-Fi connection. Additionally, you should make sure you have at least 50 percent of battery left before trying to install the update. As for the software itself, the jump to Android 7.0 Nougat should theoretically significantly improve the user experience of the Moto Z Play as it introduces a plethora of new features like Multi Window support, quick app switching, new emoji, and bundled notifications. Additionally, the update also ships with a wide variety of performance tweaks that should not only make the experience of using the Moto Z Play smoother but were also designed to significantly improve the battery performance of the device that was already known for boasting solid battery life. Some users are reporting that after the upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat, their Moto Z Play is able to guarantee over 11 hours of Screen On Time (SOT).

In other words, if you aren’t excited about Android 7.0 Nougat hitting your Moto Z Play, you probably should be as the update is bound to make your reliable device even better. If you own an unlocked variant of the phone, expect to receive the update notification in the coming days.
