AT&T Debuts Unlimited Data on GoPhone for $60/month

After many carriers had decided to get rid of unlimited data, it seems that everyone has brought it back, even prepaid carriers like GoPhone. Today, AT&T GoPhone announced a new $60 plan that brings you unlimited data, but of course it does have a few caveats. It’s actually fairly similar to the Unlimited Choice plan that AT&T debuted not too long ago. Users get unlimited data, but speeds are capped at just 3Mbps. Additionally, video is capped at 480p streaming and there is no mobile hotspot available. It’s a bit of a bummer for those looking for unlimited data, but for the most part 3Mbps should be more than sufficient for browsing the web, Twitter, Snapchat and other popular apps.

Now if you’d rather have full 4G LTE speeds, GoPhone did debut a second new plan today which gets you 6GB of data for just $40/month. This is 4G LTE speeds, so there’s no cap, until you hit your 6GB of data. Once you hit that cap, your data will be slowed to 128Kbps, which is quite normal on plans like this. What it means is that you’ll still be able to use your phone, but you’ll just be seeing a bit slower speeds, and best of all, no overages. Both of these plans are available now on GoPhone to both new and existing customers.

AT&T hasn’t really been touting GoPhone all that much until recently. It had seemed that they were going all in with Cricket. But now they are releasing new phones like the LG Phoenix 3 on GoPhone and now bringing in unlimited data. Now while this unlimited data option is probably not the best option for most people, it is a great option for those that don’t want to worry about data caps, and can survive with speeds being under 3Mbps. Of course, if you do need faster speeds, there are other options available, like AT&T’s unlimited plans on the postpaid side, which do also offer up $25 credit for U-verse, DIRECTV or DIRECTV NOW, which is a pretty nice perk to have, in addition to having mobile hotspot.
