AT&T is now offering loyalty rewards to existing customers of its streaming service, DIRECTV NOW. AT&T states these loyalty rewards are designed to say ‘thanks’ to those who have stuck with the service. As part of the program, the company will offer two new promotions. The first promotion is free access to HBO for 12 months – providing you have either a Go Big or Gotta Have It package. The second is a $5 discount for the next six months off the cost of the Live a Little or Just Right packages. To qualify for these deals, existing customer accounts must have been active prior to March 6, 2017, and must not currently show a pending cancellation. If you already have a HBO subscription you do not have to do anything as AT&T will automatically credit your account for the duration of the promotion. For those who prepaid for one or three months to receive a free device need not worry either. Those accounts will begin to be credited at the end of the prepaid period and will continue to be for one year from that date.
Some will see this new promotion as not only a ‘thank you’, but also an ‘I’m sorry’ for the troubles that have plagued the service from the start, including issues with streaming. In December customers angrily flooded Twitter with a new hashtag QP1502 which referred to an error code many seemed to be dealing with constantly. The tweets encouraged others affected by the bug to contact the FCC with a view to prompting a quicker response to the situation. AT&T responded to the complaints by saying all new technology was bound to have hiccups and that only a small group of customers were affected. AT&T also stated it was working hard on resolving all the issues.
At present, it would seem that the vast majority of DIRECTV NOW bugs have been worked out. Which could be why AT&T has chosen now to offer up these new loyalty rewards. Those who wish to give DIRECTV NOW a shot can get a free seven-day trial. After which, you can choose from four packages starting at $35/month up to $70/month. If you would like to add HBO, Cinemax, or Starz you can grab those as well for an additional $5 charge each month.
