After T-Mobile, it appears that AT&T and Sprint have also started shipping out the LG G6 to customers who pre-ordered the flagship. LG unveiled the G6 at MWC 2017 in Barcelona in late February and the phone was scheduled to make a debut in the US on April 7. But eager to impress their subscriber base, a few carriers including AT&T and Sprint have started sending out LG G6 orders in advance.
Some customers have already received shipping notices which indicate the LG G6 should land today, March 29. Coincidentally or not, later today Samsung is expected to take the stage in New York during its Unpacked 2017 event and unleash the highly-anticipated Galaxy S8 flagship. At AT&T, the LG G6 costs $24/month for 30 months for AT&T Next customers or $30/month for 24 months for AT&T Next Every Year subscribers. It’s also available for $719 outright. As for Sprint, the carrier offers the new LG flagship for $29.50/month over 24 months (which adds up to $708). Both carriers are also throwing in a free Google Home with any LG G6 order, although Sprint also offers an additional free-of-charge 49-inch 1080p LG TV (valued at $349.99) for customers who place a pre-order until May 11.
LG claims that the G6 has been greeted with unprecedented interest by customers. According to recent information, the company managed to sell a whopping 40,000 units on the first four days in Korea. But it remains to be seen whether the LG G6 will be received just as well in the US. The new product arrives with a 5.7-inch “Full Vision” QHD+ display with (2880 x 1440 resolution) and an atypical 18:9 aspect ratio. The Korean smartphone maker claims that most media content available on the Google Play Store already supports the 18:9 aspect ratio, but LG has also added a special “zoom mode” for unsupported content. On the inside, the LG G6 features a Snapdragon 821 processor working in combination with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB of built-in storage.
The LG G6 takes advantage of a dual camera setup made up of two 13-megapixel sensors. The first lens brings f/1.8, OIS (optical image stabilization), 3-axis, PDAF (phase detection auto focus), while the other has f/2.4 aperture but no autofocus. There’s also a wide-angle lens up in front along the 5-megapixel sensor for snapping selfies. Unlike, its predecessor the LG G6 is waterproof. The phone relies on a 3,300mAh battery and runs Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box with LG’s new UX 6 interface. LG is offering several versions of the G6, but the US market is going to get a variant that supports wireless charging. Other markets like South Korea will get an audio quad-DAC LG G6, instead.
