Cricket Wireless is making moves to stay competitive with the likes of Verizon and T-Mobile. Today The AT&T owned company announced a price drop in their unlimited data plan from $70 a month to $60 a month. Furthermore, if you sign up for autopay Cricket will take an additional $5 a month off your bill bringing it down to $55 a month. The plan comes with unlimited high-speed data, text, and talk plus calls to Mexico and Canada as well. It also has unlimited international texting in 38 other countries. If you need more than one line they have a group savings plan as well.
The math behind the group savings plan is that two lines gets you $10 off, three gets you an additional $20 on top of that, then $30 for four and then $40 for five and that’s when Cricket cuts you off. So in all, you could save $100 by getting five lines. Other plans it offers includes 1GB for $30 a month, 3GB for $40 a month, and 8GB for $50 a month, all of which is eligible for the same auto pay discount.
This price drop comes off the heels of its most recent announcement that Cricket may start throttling unlimited users if they exceed 22GB in a single billing period. This is what Cricket calls “congestion management” the company said. This doesn’t mean that Cricket will actually throttle everybody, it should only happen in areas that experience heavy traffic loads such as being in a city downtown area during rush hour. With this statement, it is saying it reserves the right to when needed. This is planned on going to effect April 2.
In the same announcement Cricket also said that if you are looking to upgrade your device and service can get one of four smartphones. The phones up for grabs for free are Samsung Galaxy Amp 2, LG Spree, ZTE Sontana, and Alcatel Streak. You can also choose from many discounted phones as well. All you have to do bring your number to Cricket. Of course existing customers can get discounted phones as well. The company also have plans in the not too distant future to roll out some new features such as HD voice and WiFi calls.
