Galaxy S6 Edge Plus Receives Android Nougat Update In Europe

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is reportedly receiving the highly-anticipated Android 7.0 Nougat update in Europe. The software package is marked as build number “G928FXXU3CQC2” and is accompanied by Google’s Android security patch for the month of March. This is the first Android Nougat update for the smartphone in question, replacing Android 6.0 Marshmallow roughly one year after the OS first arrived on the device.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus first received Android 7.0 Nougat in Turkey about a week ago, and now the update is reportedly expanding to more units across Europe. The software package includes the March Android security patch and is accompanied by a handful of features specific to Android Nougat, including slit-screen mode for improved multitasking, a new Doze mode promising extended battery life, performance improvements, and a variety of changes to the general user interface. As usual, the update is distributed OTA (over-the-air) and will expand gradually to encompass an increasing number of Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus units across Europe over the coming days or weeks. However, owners of the device who reside in Europe can also attempt to trigger the update process manually from the phone’s Settings menu under System Updates. In Turkey, the package was roughly 1.5GB in size and the update for the European models is likely to retain a similar size. Having said that, make sure to download the software package over an active Wi-Fi network to avoid slow download speeds, and ensure that the smartphone has at least 50% battery life left in order to remain up and running throughout the entire process.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was released in August 2015 with a 5.7-inch display in tow and was labeled as a larger alternative to the 5.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. A “Plus” variant was no longer necessary in 2016 as the South Korean tech giant launched the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge with a larger 5.5-inch panel, however, the industry expects a new “Plus” model to be unveiled later today bearing the ‘Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus’ moniker. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Plus was launched with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box and received Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow last year around February, which means that Android 7.0 Nougat could be the last major update to land on the device before it officially retires.
