The Android 7.0 Nougat update is now rolling out to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in India. The upgrade package is being distributed as an over-the-air (OTA) update, meaning the rollout is happening in stages and will probably take several days to be completed. Owners of the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in India will receive a notification prompting them to download the update in the coming days. Alternatively, users can also search for the update manually by opening their phone’s Settings app, navigating to the “About device” section, and tapping the “Download updates manually” option. The Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge is approximately 1.3GB in size, so make sure you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network before you start downloading it. Likewise, you should make sure your device has at least 50 percent of battery left before it starts installing the update.
The latest major iteration of Google’s operating system brings a plethora of new additions to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge, including an improved Doze Mode and a number of performance tweaks that should ennoble your experience of using either device. This is likely the last major update that Samsung will officially push out to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge as both smartphones are two years old now and their owners should only expect to receive Android Security Updates in the future. It seems that the Galaxy S6 Edge+ still isn’t getting the Nougat update in India, but given this turn of events, that handset should also be running the latest major version of Android in the near future.
The Android Nougat update already started rolling out to the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in Europe several days ago, so it seems that unlocked variants of both devices will receive this OS version worldwide in the coming months. In related news, Samsung is scheduled to announce the Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus in just over two weeks and both handsets are expected to run Android Nougat out of the box.
