The upcoming Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will keep the Home button camera shortcut supported by the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge, recent developments indicate. The larger variant of Samsung’s 2017 flagship was depicted in a sizeable set of real-life images that leaked just yesterday, and several photographs showcased one of the Settings screens of the device. While Android Nougat running on the smartphone was set to Spanish, a quick translation of the image reveals that the Advanced Features tab of the Settings app contains virtually identical features to those found on the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge. One of them is the so-called “Quick launch Camera” option that allows users to access the Camera app of their handset by “pressing the Home key twice in quick succession.” This wording is identical to the one found on the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 7.0 Nougat so the feature itself will likely work in an identical manner.
While Samsung’s 2016 flagship duo supports the Quick launch Camera feature on Nougat, the functionality itself isn’t new and has already debuted on Marshmallow, i.e. the Marshmallow variant of the TouchWiz proprietary user interface. Apart from double-pressing the Home button to launch the Camera app, owners of the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge also had the option of enabling a shortcut that lets them switch to Samsung’s One-Handed Mode by triple-pressing the Home key. The rest of the Advanced Features tab of the Galaxy S8 (Plus) seemingly contains the very same options supported by its predecessors as the image below reveals the existence of “Accessories” and “Games” tabs, as well as the aforementioned One-Handed Mode. One novelty identified on the photograph is an anti-spam functionality, as well as a new tab housing options related to Gestures.
The Galaxy S8 and the Galaxy S8 Plus will be officially unveiled on Wednesday, March 29. That’s the date when the South Korean tech giant will arrive in New York City to announce and detail its new pair of high-end Android smartphones and reveal information regarding their availability and pricing, so an update on both handsets is just around the corner.
