Huawei’s new P10 flagship just received its very first update, which mainly comes to fix a few issues related to the camera. The Huawei P10 is currently available for pre-order in several countries, but before unleashing it to the masses, the Chinese device maker wants to make sure it has eradicated these bugs.
The update is currently hitting some tests units in Europe and comes weighing only 254MB. According to the official change log, the update fixes an issue where the camera couldn’t launch in Google Voice. On top of that, it repairs a problem with the camera preview screen which did not display correctly in certain situations. Huawei also notes the update improves system performance and stability for smoother operations. Note that the update will not erase any personal data on the device, but it is recommended that users back up any important data before proceeding to install it on their device.
Huawei unveiled the P10 flagship at MWC 2017, alongside the P10 Plus. The handset made a debut into the world with a 5.1-inch display with 1920 x 1080 resolution, 432 ppi and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The P10 takes advantage of Huawei’s home-grown Kirin 960 processor which is an octa-core chipset made up of four 2.4 GHz Cortex-A73 cores and four 1.8 GHz Cortex-A53 cores. The SoC works hand in hand with 4GB of RAM and 32GB or 64GB native storage (expandable up to 256GB via microSD card slot). Photography is one of the strong points of the P10. Like in the case of the Huawei Mate 9 flagship, the Chinese company was partnered up with photography icon Leica for the dual camera setup located on the back, but also for the selfie snapper living up in front. The rear setup comprises of a 20-megapixel monochrome shooter and a 12-megapixel color sensor, plus OIS (optical image stabilization), PDAF (phased detection auto focus) and f/2.2 aperture. The frontal camera is an 8MP snapper with f/1.9 aperture. The phone relies on a 3,200mAh battery and runs Android 7.0 Nougat with Huawei’s own EMUI 5.1 interface plastered on top.
The Huawei P10 was announced in eight color variations including some with a textured back like the Dazzling Blue (designed in collaboration with Pantone) and the Dazzling Gold. Huawei announced a recommended retail price of €649 ($685) for the P10, but customers in Germany can pre-order the phone for as low as €599 ($650). The Huawei P10 should start shipping out soon.
