Huawei’s Mate 9 Pro finally has support for Daydream which means that owners of the phone will be able to place the device inside of the Daydream View headset and enjoy all of the content that has thus far been published to the Play Store, which includes quite a few different applications as well as a fair number of games. Daydream support for the Mate 9 Pro was initially announced back in January when Google mentioned that Daydream compatibility would be extending to a new range of devices, four in total, with the Huawei Mate 9 Pro being one of these devices. It also included the Huawei Mate 9 Porsche Design, which has also finally gained support for Daydream today.
The Daydream support comes through a software update to each of these two devices so users will want to keep an eye out for the update notification, or they could always check manually from the settings menu to see if the update is available for a download. In addition to alerting users to the newly added Daydream support, Google also reiterates that the Mate 9 Pro and the Mate 9 Porsche Design are both available in the U.S., the UK, Germany, Australia, and Canada, so consumers who want a different option for a device that can use Daydream apps now have two more choices beyond the Pixel and the Pixel XL, the ZTE Axon 7, and the Moto Z, and eventually these will all be joined by the ASUS ZenFone AR.
Google doesn’t mention any details about how large the update is so if you are expecting it you may want to consider connecting your device to a local Wi-Fi network before you initiate the update download. Support arriving for two new phones today couldn’t come at a more perfect time as Unity was previously reported to support Daydream today, which means there will be many new games coming that are built on Unity and that means users will be in for some awesome graphics in upcoming Daydream games. If you have either the Mate 9 Pro or the Mate 9 Porsche Design, you’ll want to get started with your Daydream adventure by downloading the official app and start exploring the content.
