The LG G6‘s announcement is behind us, and the company’s next-in-line flagship, the LG V30 has just made an appearance online. The smartphone’s alleged glass panel leaked online today, revealing a few interesting details in the process.
Judging by the two circular cutouts in the top left corner, it seems the LG V30 will come boasting a dual selfie camera. More and more smartphone makers are putting dual cameras on the back of their products, but the latest trend is to offer dual cameras up in front too. Most recently, OPPO unveiled the so-called “Selfie Expert” F3 Plus which takes advantage of a frontal 16-megapixel camera with a 1/3-inch sensor and f/2.0 aperture plus a wide-angle lens with 8-megapixel resolution and 120-degree angle 6-element lens. While the LG V20 already has a dual-camera setup on the back, it makes sense that LG would want to take things to the next level with the LG V30 and add a dual-cameras up in front too. Furthermore, it appears that following today’s design trends, the LG V30 will take advantage of minimal bezels.
Despite previous rumors saying that the LG V30 will ditch the secondary mini-screen, it’s quite evident when looking at the leaked image that the ticker display will be still onboard. Since inception, the secondary screen has been the unmistakable emblem of the LG V line, although many consider it just a gimmick. LG V phones use the mini screen to display additional information and quick settings that aren’t always in the foreground of a typical Android phone. So if the leaked image is authentic, it means the LG V30 will be carrying on the tradition of thicker displays.
An older rumor related to the LG V30 claimed that the phone will be the only one in LG’s lineup this year to take advantage of a Snapdragon 835. Initial Snapdragon 835 yields have been very skimpy and so the LG G6 launched with a Snapdragon 821 onboard. But the LG V30 is expected to arrive later this year, when in theory Qualcomm’s new high-end chip should become more widely available. The V30 was also said to come bundling 6GB of RAM and improved DAC (compared to the LG V20). Given that the LG V20 was released in October 2016, the LG V30 should arrive around the same period this year.
