Following in the footsteps of a number of high-profile and luxury brands, Montblanc has today announced a new smartwatch, the Montblanc Summit. Among other things, this is a smartwatch which comes running on Android Wear 2.0 and therefore, makes use of a number of Android Wear 2.0-specific features including the Google Assistant. However, with this being from a luxury brand, it is being positioned as a luxury item and that includes a relatively speaking, luxury price. In fact, the Montblanc Summit is going to cost $890 as a starting point when it does becomes available to buy. Which at the moment is scheduled for a May 2017 release. Although, the Montblanc Summit will initially (for two weeks) only be available via the online retailer site MR PORTER. Following the exclusivity period, the Montblanc Summit will be available directly from Montblanc, as well as Montblanc retail channels.
Montblanc is certainly positioning this smartwatch as a customized option and so it will be available in a number of different styles. The baseline versions will be offered along with either a black calfskin strap, a brown sfumato strap, or a rubber strap (available in black, blue, green or red). Montblanc also explains that the Summit comes equipped with slightly curved sapphire glass. Which according to Montblanc is “a world first in smartwatches” and designed to provide the feel “of a real watch.” For those who want the ultimate experience though, Montblanc will be offering consumers the option to create a bespoke dial, with a unique watch face that is ‘exclusive to them’. However, the price for this particular level of customization is listed to start from €15,000.
In terms of the main numbers, the Montblanc Summit is a smartwatch which comes equipped with a 1.39-inch full round AMOLED display along with a 400 x 400 resolution. Inside, you can expect to find 512MB RAM, 4GB internal storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 2100 powering the show. This is a smartwatch that comes equipped with Bluetooth 4.1. and Wifi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, while a 300 mAh battery powers the device – which can be charged via the included magnetic charging cradle. You can also add to the list an IP68 certification for water-resistance which should mean that it will be fine when caught in the rain or when washing your hands. There are also a number of sensors thrown in for good measure, including a heart rate monitor and you can also expect to find some additional features and software tweaks. Such as Runtastic pre-installed and access to a three-month Runtastic Premium subscription for free.
