Luxurious watchmaker TAG Heuer and Intel have officially announced the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, an Android Wear-powered smartwatch designed to combine both style and substance. The wearable is powered by the Intel Atom Z34XX CPU and is running Android Wear 2.0 out of the box. The Swiss watchmaker confirmed that it started retailing the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 on Tuesday, adding that the device sports a $1,600 price tag, as expected.
The wearable is available in 56 variants, 11 of which are widely available for purchase in specialty watch stores and directly from TAG Heuer’s website. The remaining 45 variants can be acquired upon request, the company revealed. The variants differ only visually as they sport a broad range of buckles, bracelets, and other physical features, though their internal components are identical. The TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 supports 30 watch dial options and a wide variety of different style combinations, while its module can be switched with a conventional mechanical watch or the TAG Heuer-02T Tourbillon Chronograph.
The Swiss company revealed that its latest connected watch is equipped with a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display, sapphire cover glass, and a titanium case. It features 4GB of internal storage and can be submerged in water by up to 100 feet. There’s still no word on how big its battery is, but the creators of the wearable claim that the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 can last over a day on a single charge. Finally, Intel is also working on an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant that’s said to debut on the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45 in the near future, though no specific timeframe has yet been given. While the device already supports the Google Assistant due to the fact it’s running Android Wear 2.0, Intel claims its own solution will be significantly different to Google’s voice-enabled companion. Jerry Bautista, Vice President of Intel’s New Technology Group said that the company’s AI helper will be able to adapt to new situations and understand contextual questions, in addition to not having a gender or even a name. Apart from the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, Intel’s assistant will also show up on other devices made by its Swiss partner, as well as wearables from the company’s other partners such as Oakley.
