It seems like the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus handsets could get Android 7.0 Nougat soon enough. It seems like Republic Wireless is soak testing this update in the US, and if everything goes according to plan, the update will begin rolling out soon enough. This is actually official information, as it has popped up on Republic Wireless’ website, and the aforementioned update comes with a build number NPJ25.93-13, not only does it upgrade the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus handsets to Android 7.0 Nougat, but it also includes Android security patches for December 2016.
Now, we do not know how successful will this test be, but presuming it goes according to plan, all Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus units could start receiving the update soon enough. Both of these smartphones were announced back in May last year, and they originally shipped with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, which is a version of Android that still runs on those two phones. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus device are actually budget smartphone offerings, and they’re quite affordable, while they’re available in a number of regions at this point. The two devices ship with a front-facing fingerprint scanner, and do have a lot in common in terms of specs. The Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus both sport a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, and the two phones also weight the same, while their specs are identical as well. The Moto G4 comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB / 32GB of native storage, while the Moto G4 Plus packs in 2GB, 3GB or 4GB of RAM, depending on the variant you purchase, and those three variants come with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB of RAM, respectively.
Both of these smartphones are fueled by the Snapdragon 617 64-bit octa-core processor, and the Adreno 405 GPU for graphics. A 13-megapixel shooter lies on the back of the Moto G4, while you’ll be able to find a 16-megapixel snapper on the back side of the Moto G4 Plus. Both devices come with a 3,000mAh non-removable battery, and both of them are available in Black and White color variants. That is more or less it, for now, you can expect these two devices to start receiving Android 7.0 Nougat soon, as the soak test is currently ongoing.
