MWC 2017: Hands-On With The NUU X5 Smartphone

NUU Mobile is a US-based company which had introduced a rather interesting smartphone back in January during CES in Las Vegas, the NUU X5. Now, the company also brought this handset to the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, where we got the chance to spend some time with it, and get some hands-on pictures for you to check out. Now, what’s this phone all about, is it a high-end premium handset? No, it’s not, it’s actually a mid-range smartphone which offers one rather unique feature, read on.

Now, if you tend to travel a lot, and leave your country in order to do so, then this smartphone might appeal to you. The NUU X5 comes with the eSIM technology that can be found in the Konnect i1, and it essentially allows you to roam on local rates without a contract or sign-up fees. Seems interesting? Well, it sure is, at least for some people. Now, as already mentioned, this is a mid-range smartphone, it sports a 5.5-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, along with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable internal storage. This handset is fueled by MediaTek’s MT6750 64-bit octa-core processor, and it packs in a 2,950mAh battery. Android 7.0 Nougat comes pre-installed on the NUU X5, and the device sports a rear-facing fingerprint scanner as well. The NUU X5 is made out of metal, and it comes with three capacitive buttons below its display, back, home and overview (multitasking) keys, respectively. Its power / lock, volume up and volume down buttons are located on the right, and the company’s branding can be found on the bottom of the device’s back. A 13-megapixel shooter is located on the back of this phone, and on the front side, you’ll find a 5-megapixel snapper.

That being said, the NUU X5 is still not available for purchase, though the device will go on sale this month, according to the company’s press release which was released back in January. The company’s site says that the phone will become available this Spring, does not mention anything about March, though, but we’ll see.
