Russian manufacturer of luxury phones Caviar just announced the Nokia 3310 Supremo Putin, a redesigned version of the recently announced Nokia 3310 refresh. The device is priced at approximately $1700 and its case is made of gold and titanium. Additionally, the phone features a depiction of the current President of Russia Vladimir Putin on its back. Underneath the golden portrait of Putin is the Russian national anthem. Like some of Caviar’s previous devices, the Nokia 3310 Supremo Putin was designed to celebrate the Russian Federation and its current president. The device ships in a traditional red box that you can see below alongside some other images depicting the Nokia 3310 Supremo Putin.
This unconventional device isn’t the first luxurious smartphone ever made by Caviar. Earlier this month, the company debuted the Huawei P9 Friendship Edition, a redesigned version of Huawei’s P9 Android smartphone that’s priced at approximately $2,700. The company regularly creates devices equipped with luxurious cases that often boast certain Russian features and while the average consumer in the West likely thinks their devices are over the top and most other people deem them too expensive, it seems like there’s a market for Caviar’s products as the firm would hardly be making them otherwise. Underneath its shiny surface, the Nokia 3310 Supremo Putin is still the regular Nokia 3310 (2017) that HMD Global announced during the latest iteration of Mobile World Congress (MWC). Earlier this week, the company said that the redesigned version of the popular 2000 feature phone supports 2.5G connectivity and is running the S30+ operating system, meaning the device is capable of browsing the Internet. The original handset was known for its lengthy battery life and its 2017 refresh isn’t any different in that regard as HMD Global claims the Nokia 3310 (2017) can provide users with over 22 hours of talk time on a single charge and offers approximately one month of standby time. The device is also equipped with a 2-megapixel rear camera and ships with some cult classics like Snake. Nokia previously said that the Nokia 3310 refresh wasn’t a perfectly “rational” product and was instead made for sentimental reasons. However, the company presumably decided to revise the popular 2000 phone due to the fact that such a move presented a relatively low financial risk.
