Tomb Raider is now available on the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV 2015 and 2017. NVIDIA announced the arrival of a new Tomb Raider game this morning and this actually marks the third time the game has become available for the NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV so far. The first rendition was the release of Tomb Raider 1 by Square Enix which saw the original Tomb Raider (in original form) ported over to Android, including support for Android TV devices such as the NVIDIA SHIELD. Following which, Square Enix and NVIDIA announced a partnership that saw a rebooted 2013 version of Tomb Raider become available to SHIELD Android TV owners through GeForce NOW.
Today, NVIDIA has essentially announced the launch of that same 2013 reboot for the SHIELD 2015 and 2017 through the Google Play Store. Which does mean that as this is in Android form, it will be even better suited to run on the NVIDIA SHIELD. In addition, due to this being a downloaded game, there should be no issues with connectivity as the game will run locally on the system. Which seems to be exactly the case after some initial testing. Tomb Raider does bring to the NVIDIA SHIELD a very solid version of the 2013 game that includes all the action you would expect from the corresponding game through GeForce NOW, or through its original release platforms including the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. For those unfamiliar with the rebooted 2013 version, this is essentially a repackaging of the original Tomb Raider story which sees Lara Croft beginning her journey. Although, the rebooting does come with some significant graphics and gameplay improvements compared to the original. Not to mention, this version comes with full support for the SHIELD Controller and Google Play Games, including Google Play Achievements. It is also worth noting that Tomb Raider supports cloud saves. So if you own more than one SHIELD and have the game installed on both consoles, you will be able to pick up and continue where you left off on either system, providing you are signed into Google Play Games account on both systems.
As to be expected, the game is fairly large in size (5.5 GB) and so you will want to make sure you have enough space on your NVIDIA SHIELD (or external storage) to house the game. In terms of the price, Tomb Raider is now available to download for $14.99 and that is an ‘all in’ price so there is nothing else to pay once you download the game. Which you can do by heading through the link below. It is also lastly worth mentioning that this NVIDIA SHIELD version also comes with the Tomb of the Lost Adventurer DLC.
