OnePlus, for a limited time, is making available at least 250 units of its newest smartphone, the OnePlus 3T, in Midnight Black. OnePlus is teaming up with Hypebeast, a streetwear fashion curator on March 24 for a pop-up sale to promote this new black variant. This promotion is a lot like the one OnePlus did with Colette, a French streetwear store, only their variant has the Colette logo on the device and came bundled with a pair of earphones. This newest promo with Hypebeast has no markings and does not sport the addition of earphones. The unique color will also be available in Europe and the US (for a limited time) at a later date.
Before it ‘settled’ on the current color called Midnight Black, OnePlus tested more than 30 colors in making their choice. The space-grade aluminum OnePlus 3T has three 14-micron coatings of the color applied, along with two sandblasting, each with different sized metal sand to arrive at that “bright, classy luster.” Lastly, the OnePlus 3T receives an anti-fingerprint layer to keep it looking like new. This new color was all brought about by customers asking for an all-black OnePlus 3T, according to Pete Lau of OnePlus.
The OnePlus 3T was a slight upgrade over the OnePlus 3 and ups the ante with the Snapdragon 821 processor, a larger battery, a 16-megapixel front-facing camera (FFC), and some software upgrades, which OP has said will also but upgraded on the original OP3. This model packs 6GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable internal memory for a cost of $479. The OnePlus 3T comes with a 5.5-inch Optic AMOLED display with Full HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and 401 pixels-per-inch (PPI) and protected by Gorilla Glass 4. Besides the Snapdragon 821 clocked at 2.35 GHz, it uses an Adreno 530 GPU to handle the most demanding graphics. Its primary camera is the same 16-megapixel shooter found on the original OP3, but it does an excellent job of taking pictures with its PDAF, OIS, LED flash, and f/2.0 aperture. As already mentioned, the FFC was bumped up to 16-megapixel with a f/2.0 aperture and better low light shooting for selfies and video chatting. It packs a 3,400 mAh non-removable battery that uses OnePlus’ own Dash Charge for quick charging of 60-percent in 30 minutes. It has the usual suspects – WiFi, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS, NFC, and a reversible USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer. It sports a front-facing fingerprint sensor and can handle mobile payments, including Android Pay.
