The Galaxy S8 might sport a pressure sensitive home key, and the Galaxy Note 8 a pressure sensitive display, at least if a new report is to be believed. According to Korean media, Samsung has developed advanced pressure-sensitive technology for their OLED panels, and the company has even showcased such technology to some partners during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.
Now, according to the source, we might even see a glimpse of this technology on the Galaxy S8, as the device might ship with a pressure sensitive home key. As most of you know by now, the Galaxy S8 will ship with on-screen buttons, and one of those on-screen keys (home button), might be pressure sensitive. Now, this feature will, allegedly, allow you to open up various menus by pressing the home key harder, and it said that you’ll be able to customize its functionality. Now, in addition to that, the Galaxy Note 8 is rumored to ship with a pressure sensitive display later this year, though that’s all that the source said, without any additional details. We’ve already seen pressure sensitive display on some smartphones out there, so this functionality will probably be quite similar to all that, while Samsung will probably pack in some additional features for you to take advantage of by using the pressure sensitive technology.
The Galaxy S8 will be announced on March 29, Samsung confirmed this during MWC 2017, and the Galaxy S8 Plus will probably launch alongside it, as both devices have been leaking like crazy for the past couple of weeks. The Galaxy S8 will be made out of metal and glass, it will ship with on-screen buttons, really thin bezels, and it will even have a dedicated physical key on the left which will be used to call upon Samsung’s all-new AI assistant called ‘Bixby’. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on the Galaxy S8, and the device will be fueled by the Snapdragon 835 processor in some regions, while the Exynos 8895 SoC will ship with the phone in some other regions. The Galaxy S8 will sport a fingerprint scanner on its back, and the phone is also rumored to ship with facial recognition technology.
