Rumor: Metal-Clad Nokia 7 & Nokia 8 To Ship With SD660 SoC

Nokia had introduced three Android-powered smartphones at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), but it seems like two additional models are on their way. According to a new report, the Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 are on the way, even though those names are still not final, the source says. The two devices could be called differently once they launch, but we’ll see about that. That being said, these two smartphones are said to be fueled by the Snapdragon 660 SoC, a processor that Qualcomm still did not announce.

The Snapdragon 660 is expected to succeed the Snapdragon 653, which means it will be the company’s mid-range offering. The Nokia 7 is expected to ship with a fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, while the Nokia 8 will come with a QHD (2560 x 1440) panel, it seems. According to the provided info, both of these smartphones will sport very thin bezels, and will be made out of metal. The two devices will sport a somewhat different design to the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6. The Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 will sport fingerprint scanners, though the source does not say whether they’ll be front or back-facing. Fast charging will be included here as well, and the two devices will also sport larger camera sensors compared to the three devices that the company already announced this year. The Nokia 8 is also rumored to ship with Zeiss optics, which is quite interesting.

Now, we still don’t know when will these two smartphones get announced, but if rumors are to be believed, they could launch in May or June. That being said, the company’s upcoming flagship is expected to carry the Nokia 9 name, and will be fueled by the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC, if previous rumors were accurate. All in all, it seems like Nokia is preparing to launch some pretty interesting smartphones, and if the Nokia 7 and Nokia 8 intend to ship with the Snapdragon 660, then Qualcomm will probably announce this processor in the near future, so stay tuned for that as well. While we’re waiting for more info, feel free to read more about the Nokia 3, Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, HMD Global’s first trio of Android-powered smartphones.
