Samsung had introduced their Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus flagship smartphones two days ago, and a rumor just surfaced claiming that the Galaxy S8 Mini is on the way as well. The source claims that this info comes from a ‘Samsung insider’, and it seems like the company’s R&D (Research and Development) team has been working on a new phone, the Galaxy S8 Mini, which will become available a couple of weeks after the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus go on sale, which means it could launch in May.
Do keep in mind that the Samsung insider did not say this phone will be called the Galaxy S8 Mini, but he did, allegedly, say that the phone will be smaller than the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, so it is possible that the company will use the ‘Mini’ name, as they did that in the past. Now, this phone will, reportedly, be more affordable than the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus, though if the source is to be believed, it will not be a mid-range smartphone per se. The Galaxy S8 Mini is rumored to ship with the Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core SoC, which is Qualcomm’s flagship SoC, and it is fueling the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus. In addition to that SoC, this ‘Mini’ variants of the Galaxy S8 will also ship with 4GB of RAM, and the same 12-megapixel snapper will be included on the back of the device.
In addition to all this, Samsung will, reportedly, include a 5.3-inch display on this smartphone, while its battery will be smaller as well. The design of the smartphone will stay the same, claims the source. As you can see, the rumored Galaxy S8 Mini is not exactly a mid-range smartphone, and yet the source claims that it will cost $399 and launch in competitive markets. That alone, seems rather fishy, this is basically a flagship smartphone based on the specs that Phone Radar shared, and if Samsung plans to introduce it with such specs, the phone probably won’t be cheaper than $500 or $600. In any case, if there’s any truth to this rumor, we’ll start seeing information about the device surface in the near future, so stay tuned for that.
