Rumor: Xiaomi Mi 6 Launch Delayed To May Due To SD835 SoC

The Xiaomi Mi 6 might not arrive as soon as expected, rumors have been claiming it will land by the end of this month, or April at the latest, but this newly-surfaced info claims that it will land in May. April 16th was mentioned as the most probably launch date for the Xiaomi Mi 6, but the source claims that the launch of the company’s new flagship has been delayed for May, though a specific date was not given.

Now, the source mentions that the Snapdragon 835 SoC may be the main, and only, reason for this delay. As many of you already know, some manufacturers were forced to utilize the Snapdragon 821 in their newest flagship devices because Samsung grabbed a ton of Snapdragon 835 chips for their Galaxy S8 flagship devices. Samsung is actually manufacturing the Snapdragon 835 chips for Qualcomm, and the company managed to take the whole first batch of Qualcomm’s chips for themselves, so HTC and LG basically had to release the HTC U Ultra and LG G6 with the Snapdragon 821, and not the Snapdragon 835. Sony managed to grab some Snapdragon 835 units for themselves it seems, as Qualcomm confirmed that the Xperia XZ Premium will be the first smartphone to ship with that SoC, but it seems like Xiaomi will have to wait a bit in order to get their hands on the Snapdragon 835.

Rumors have been claiming that the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be released in both Snapdragon 835 and Helio X30 variants, but it seems like Xiaomi decided to utilize only the Snapdragon 835. Several Xiaomi Mi 6 variants are rumored to be released, including the Ceramic variant of the device. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will probably sport a 5.2-inch fullHD display, at least its base variant will, as the most powerful model is rumored to ship with a QHD panel. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will also pack in 4GB / 6GB of RAM, and will ship with Android Nougat out of the box, and the company’s MIUI 8 OS on top of it. Stay tuned, we’ll report back as soon as more info surfaces, but at the moment, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer for the Xiaomi Mi 6 to become available.
