Rumor: Xiaomi Mi 6 To Sport Wireless Charging, Iris Scanner

The Xiaomi Mi 6 is right around the corner if rumors are to be believed, and some new info just surfaced. This time around, some information leaked on Weibo, China’s social network. According to the source, the Xiaomi Mi 6 will be waterproof, it will support wireless charging, and ship with an iris scanner as well. On top of all that, the source also mentions that the company plans to release a ceramic variant of the Xiaomi Mi 6 as well, which will probably be the most expensive Xiaomi Mi 6 variant to be announced.

Now, on top of the info that the source shared, we also have the Xiaomi Mi 6’s front panel to show you, well, the phone’s alleged front panel. If you look at the first image down below, you’ll be able to see it, and as you can see, there are quite a few openings up front, and one of them seems to be an opening for an iris scanner. In addition to that, Xiaomi shared a rather obvious teaser on their official Weibo page, a person’s eye, which also points towards iris retina scanner. Now, it is also worth noting that the phone’s SIM card tray surfaced a couple of days ago, and it contains some rubber parts which also point towards water resistance, the Xiaomi Mi 6 will probably be IP68 certified for water and dust resistance, but that’s only a guess at this point, we’ll just have to wait for the company to introduce the device. Speaking of which, the Xiaomi Mi 6 is expected to land next month, though we still don’t know when exactly, April 11 has been mentioned in rumors, but so has April 16. In any case, Xiaomi will probably announce the Xiaomi Mi 6 press conference soon, so stay tuned for that.

Now, according to rumors, the Xiaomi Mi 6 will sport a 5.2-inch fullHD (1920 x 1080) display, though a variant with a QHD (2560 x 1440) display is also a possibility. The phone will ship in both 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, and Android Nougat will come pre-installed on the device. Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 OS will come pre-installed on top of Google’s OS, and the device will be made out of metal and glass, though a metal + ceramic variant is also a possibility.
