Specs: Samsung Galaxy S8

Samsung has announced the Galaxy S8 today in both New York and London, simultaneously. The Galaxy S8 is exactly what we thought it would be, as leaks were more or less spot on. This is one of the most powerful smartphones in the market at the moment, and it’s also one of the best looking ones. Samsung opted to take things a step further this time around, and offer us a somewhat different design than last time, with an emphasis on trimming down bezels, and removing the physical home key. That being said, we’ve already talked about the Galaxy S8 in our original announcement, and are here to take a closer look at its specifications, so, let’s get started.

The Galaxy S8 is made out of metal and glass, its power / lock key is placed on the right side of its body, while you’ll find a volume up, volume down and the Bixby AI physical keys on the right. The Galaxy S8 features a 5.8-inch QHD (2560 x 1440, 570 PPI) Super AMOLED Dual Edge display, which essentially means it is curved on the sides, similar to the Galaxy S7 Edge’s panel. The Galaxy S8 actually comes in two SoC variants, the Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 SoC models, and their availability will be market dependent, as was the case in the past for the company’s flagships. The Galaxy S8 packs in 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of expandable native storage (expandable up to 256GB via a microSD card). A 3,000mAh battery is included on the inside of this smartphone, and it is not removable. Speaking of which, you’re getting both fast charging, and wireless fast charging here. The Galaxy S8 comes with Wi-Fi 802.11ac MIMO, while you’re getting LTE Category 16 here.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 sports a 12-megapixel Dual Pixel OIS snapper (f/1.7 aperture, 1.4um pixel size) on the back, and it is flanked by a heart rate sensor, an LED flash and a fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy S8 is also equipped with an iris scanner, which is placed up front, and also a face scanning technology. An 8-megapixel snapper is also available on the front side of the device, and we’re looking at a camera which packs in a wide-angle lens. Android 7.0 Nougat comes pre-installed on the Galaxy S8, and on top of it, you’ll be able to find the latest version of Samsung’s custom UI. Samsung’s latest flagship also supports 4G LTE connectivity, of course. Samsung Pay is included in this package as well, and the phone comes with IP68 certification for water and dust resistance. The Galaxy S8 comes in Black, Silver and Purple color variants, which gives you plenty of choices when buying one. The device measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8mm, while it weighs 155 grams. On top of all this, it’s also worth mentioning that the phone sports a 3.5mm headphone jack as well.
