The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus have just paid a visit to the FCC. This essentially means that the both devices have received their certification in the US, ahead of their unveiling later this month. Three Galaxy S8 models surfaced on the FCC, the SM-G950U, SM-G950U1 and SM-G950W, and the same goes for the Galaxy S8 Plus, as the SM-955U, SM-955U1 and SM-G955W got certified by the FCC. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will get announced on March 29, for those of you who don’t know, Samsung confirmed this during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC).
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus images did not surface on the FCC this time around, which is a shame, but thanks to a number of leaks that surfaced in the last couple of weeks, we basically know what will these two devices look like. Their specs have also surfaced a number of times thus far, so we’re covered in that area as well. The ‘U’ models that got certified by the FCC are actually unlocked variants of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus for the US market, in case you were wondering, and you can expect some carrier-branded variants to pop up in the coming weeks as well. The certified Galaxy S8 models will work on all major US carriers, as all the necessary GSM and CDMA bands are supported.The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones will be made out of metal and glass, while they will also ship with a curved display, not to mention that the two phones will sport minimal amount of bezel above and below the display, while they’ll have basically no bezel on the sides.
Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus flagships are expected to sport a 5.8-inch and a 6.2-inch display, respectively, and they’ll probably include 4GB of RAM on the inside. Android Nougat will come pre-installed on both devices, and Samsung’s custom UI will ship on top of Google’s OS. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 SoC will fuel these two smartphones in some markets, while Samsung’s Exynos 8895 will be included in some other regions. The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus will ship with on-screen buttons, as Samsung is ditching the physical home key, and a fingerprint scanner will be included on the back of both of these handsets.
