Owners of the HTC 10 on Verizon’s network have waited a long time for the Android 7.0 (Nougat) update to arrive, although it now seems as though the OTA is finally rolling out today. The unlocked version of the HTC 10 received its update back in November, while T-Mobile got theirs in January and Sprint’s HTC 10 in February. In either case, it is a matter of better late than never, and with the new software version 2.41.605.12, Verizon HTC 10 owners will be able to enjoy the many new features on offer with Android Nougat. As with all OTA updates, it will be rolling out over the next couple of days, so you may not see the update arrive right away. You can always try to ‘force’ the upgrade by heading to Settings–>Software updates, and request your device to check for the update manually.
Android Nougat has many benefits over Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) – some are working behind the scenes to make your Android experience better and more efficient, while others are clearly visible to the user. Working together, current and first time users, will enjoy both the internal and external improvements. Behind the scenes, Android’s Doze feature is now better than ever and allows your device to go into a lower state of power within seconds after the device is in the sleep mode. The phone leaves the Doze mode as soon as you ‘wake-up’ your device to use it and this saves a lot of battery usage for when you really need it. Android Nougat provides more realistic graphics than previous versions of Android. The Vulcan API produces sharper images and has a more life-like feel when you view graphics. New security features were also high on Android’s list of priorities and Nougat includes a file-based encryption that protects the files on your device. The device also starts faster with apps that run securely even before you enter your password.
Visual improvements include a much better notification area where you can personalize your quick settings. You can communicate more effectively with new emojis and the ability to use two or more languages at one time. Data Saver will allow you to manage how much data your device uses to update your apps if you are off Wi-Fi. Bundled notifications on the screen allow you to view all notifications quickly and decide if you need to answer them immediately. You can reply to a notification without having to open the app to do so. Nougat has improved multitasking making it easier to set up two windows at once on your display and then jump between them. These are just some of the new features and improvements on offer with Android Nougat.
