Xiaomi Launches The MiJia Walkie-Talkie For $36

Xiaomi launched its latest device yesterday, the MiJia Walkie-Talkie. This is the first walkie-talkie created by the Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer and the device itself ships with a relatively affordable price tag of 249 yuan, which translates to a little over $36. The MiJia Walkie-Talkie will be available for purchase in China beginning on Friday and will be sold via multiple online retailers, the company said. Only the white variant of the device will be available for the time being. It is currently unlikely that the MiJia Walkie-Talkie will ever be sold outside of China, so people living anywhere else in the world will probably have to go through a reseller to get their hands on this device.

In terms of specs, the MiJia Walkie-Talkie happens to ship with all the hardware featured by regular walkie-talkies. It comes with support for the Ultra High Frequency (UHF), i.e. the frequency range between 403MHz and 470MHz. Additionally, Xiaomi’s gadget also supports the Very High Frequency (VHF) range spanning from 136MHz to 174MHz. With UHF and VHF, the MiJia Walkie-Talkie can be used almost anywhere, including metropolitan areas with a high degree of radio interference. On top of that, the device comes with support for FM Radio, allowing you to tune in to your favorite radio stations. The MiJia Walkie-Talkie is also capable of location sharing, and its main feature happens to be the long battery standby time as the device can reportedly last up to eight days on a single charge, Xiaomi says.

Xiaomi has been adding many devices to its portfolio in the past few months. The company recently debuted a musical instrument, a wristwatch for children, and even its own chipset which was announced yesterday as the Pinecone Surge S1. While the company is widely known for its affordable smartphones which are sold around the world, Xiaomi is popular in China due to its Mi Home products sold under the MiJia brand. Its Mi Home ecosystem contains a wide variety of products including rice cookers, air purifiers, security cameras and even a robot vacuum cleaner. The company also recently invested in multiple startups which sell their products under the Xiaomi brand.
