Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 To Ship With In-Display Fingerprint Scanner

A new Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 rumor has just surfaced, and if this information is to be believed, the device will ship with an in-display fingerprint scanner. In addition to that, the phone is said to launch in the second half of this year, as expected, considering the fact that the first-gen Xiaomi Mi MIX (image above the article) phablet landed back in October. This information comes from Pan Jiutang, a China-based analyst. According to Mr. Jiutang, the Xiaomi Mi MIX could be the first smartphone to utilize Goodix’s in-display fingerprint scanning technology.

Goodix had introduced the aforementioned in-display fingerprint scanning technology during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Now, interestingly enough, the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 is not the only smartphone rumored to sport such technology, the iPhone 8 could also ship with Goodix’s tech, at least according to the source. It was reported earlier that the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 will ship with an even higher screen-to-body ratio than the Xiaomi Mi MIX. For comparison’s sake, it’s worth noting that the Xiaomi Mi MIX comes with a 91.3% screen-to-body ratio, and is one sleek-looking smartphone. Xiaomi managed to surprise quite a few people when they introduced the Xiaomi Mi MIX next to the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 last year. The XiaomI Mi MIX basically grabbed the spotlight, and rumors regarding its successor started almost immediately. This smartphone is made out of ceramic, and thanks to that and the fact that it has such high screen-to-body ratio, it’s somewhat of a challenge to operate it without a case, not to mention that it has a huge 6.4-inch display.

The Xiaomi Mi MIX is a high-end smartphone, no doubt about that, this is supposed to be a premium offering by Xiaomi, and its successor will probably follow in its footsteps. The Xiaomi Mi MIX comes with the Snapdragon 821 SoC, which was Qualcomm’s most powerful SoC back when the Xiaomi Mi MIX was introduced, so its successor could ship with the Snapdragon 835, though it remains to be seen what happens. One thing is for sure, though, we’ll get yet another futuristic smartphone from Xiaomi this year, as the company’s CEO confirmed, a while back, that the company is working on the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2., and that the phone will ship without physical keys.
