HTC had announced earlier today that their HTC U flagship will be announced on May 16, and it seems like the device just surfaced on Bluetooth SIG. The HTC U (2PZCxxx) got certified by Bluetooth SIG, and even though this listing does not exactly reveal all that much detail about the device, it does reveal something rather specific. According to Bluetooth SIG, the HTC U will feature Bluetooth 5.0, which does come as a surprise, previous rumors and leaks suggested that the phone will come with Bluetooth 4.2.
That being said, the only smartphone that offers Bluetooth 5.0 support at the moment is the Galaxy S8, and its Galaxy S8 Plus sibling, of course. Bluetooth 5.0 has a number of benefits to it, compared to Bluetooth 4.2, it offers improved connectivity in various areas. Now, Bluetooth 5.0 brings 2 times faster Bluetooth pairing, which means you’ll be able to pair your phone extremely fast with Bluetooth peripherals. In addition to that, Bluetooth 5.0 can hold a connection way better than Bluetooth 4.2, as its connectivity range has been improved 4 times. In theory, Bluetooth 4.2 is able to hold a connection with a Bluetooth device up to 50 meters outdoors, and 10 meters indoors, well, multiply that by 4, and you’ll get what Bluetooth 5.0 can handle, in theory. Bluetooth 5.0 also comes with 8 times more data throughput compared to Bluetooth 4.2, which is yet another quite significant improvement.
Now, if rumors and leaks are to be believed, the HTC U will be quite a compelling smartphone. Our exclusive leak actually revealed quite a few info when it comes to this smartphone, including some of its specs. The HTC U is expected to sport a 5.5-inch WQHD display, 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of native storage. A 3,000mAh battery will also be included in this package, and the Snapdragon 835 will fuel this smartphone. The front-facing fingerprint scanner will be included here, and the phone will be made out of metal and glass. Android 7.1 Nougat will come pre-installed on the HTC U, and on top of it, you’ll get HTC’s Sense UI, as per usual. That is more or less it, we’ll have to wait for HTC to unveil the HTC U in order to be sure, but it seems like the phone will ship with Bluetooth 5.0 support.
