Gionee earlier today launched its new, security-oriented M6S Plus smartphone in China, as expected. The handset comes with fairly impressive hardware, though one of its main selling points is an encrypted chip that comes with the EAL4+ certification guaranteeing enhanced security. The phablet sports a 6-inch display panel and is an upgrade over the company’s last-generation M6 devices – the Gionee M6 and M6 Plus. The handset is offered in two variants, with the base model with 64GB of storage having a 3,499 yuan ($508) price tag, while the more expensive variant with 256GB of storage will set you back 4,299 yuan ($624). The smartphone will soon be up for pre-orders on the Chinese eCmmerce portal JD.com, with general sales scheduled to begin on May 2.
The aforementioned display panel of the M6S Plus supports a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and both versions of the smartphone ship with 6GB of RAM, which should ensure that the device can handle just about any memory-intensive process without any issues. The phablet is powered by the Snapdragon 653 SoC, which comes with an integrated 64-bit 1.95GHz octa-core CPU and the Adreno 510 GPU alongside the X9 LTE modem that supports download speeds of up to 300Mbps and upload speeds of up to 150Mbps with 2×20 MHz carrier aggregation. The Gionee M6S Plus also features a fingerprint scanner that’s placed on its rear panel, just below the camera module.
Regarding the imaging capabilities of the Gionee M6S Plus, the device sports a 12-megapixel primary camera with a dual-tone LED flash, f/1.9 aperture, and a pixel size of 1.4μm, while an 8-megapixel front-facing camera with an f/2.0 aperture and an identical pixel size is responsible for video calls and selfies. Being an M-series smartphone from Gionee, the phablet is also fueled by a massive battery featuring a capacity of 6,020mAh with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. On the software side of things, the Gionee M6S Plus runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow enhanced with the Amigo OS 3.5. Finally, the smartphone offers Dual SIM connectivity, along with support for 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and USB OTG. It remains to be seen whether the device will eventually launch outside of China.
