HTC has just announced that the HTC U will be landing on May 16. The company’s rumored HTC U flagship will be coming next month, and the company released an official teaser image for its launch, as you can see above the article. In that image, HTC clearly confirms that the HTC U is coming, the phone is blurred out in the background, and the company also mentions that the phone’s launch event will begin at 2AM EST / 7AM CET.
In their teaser image, HTC included the ‘Squeeze For The Brilliant’ caption, which seems to be their slogan for the HTC U’s launch. Now, the HTC U has been leaking out for a while now, and it seems like the phone will look like a smaller version of the HTC U Ultra, though it will not sport that secondary display up top, at least if rumors and leaks are to be believed. Now, earlier this month, we’ve shared an exclusive leak of the HTC U, also known as the HTC Ocean. It seems like the phone will be made out of metal and glass, while it will sport a fingerprint scanner / home button below the display, and two capacitive buttons on its sides, just like the HTC U Ultra. The HTC U will probably sport a 5.5-inch WQHD display with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top of it. The phone will pack in 4GB / 6GB of RAM and 64GB / 128GB of internal storage, while a 3,000mAh battery will be included in this package as well. Speaking of the battery. Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging tech will be a part of this package as well, and so will Bluetooth 4.2 it seems. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 64-bit octa-core processor will fuel the HTC U, along with the Adreno 540 GPU, and the phone will ship with Android 7.1 Nougat out of the box, while HTC’s custom Sense UI will be placed on top of it.
On top of all that, you can also expect BoomSound speakers to be a part of the experience, and the biggest addition to the whole package are probably ‘Edge Sensors’. These sensors will be placed near the bottom of the device, and they will allow you to interact with the HTC U’s edges in order to complete certain tasks. This does sound like an interesting feature, and it will be interesting to see how will HTC implement that, presuming it’s true, of course. We’ll find out everything on May 16, so stay tuned.
