All Moto G5 Plus Units On Verizon Can Now Call 911

All Moto G5 Plus units on Verizon’s network should now be able to call 911 without any issues, Motorola Mobility’s Public Relations official Dawn McKenzie confirmed in a statement provided to Android Headlines earlier today. The issue preventing Moto G5 Plus owners from calling emergency services through Verizon was initially uncovered last Wednesday after one of Verizon’s customers using the device took to Reddit to reveal how they weren’t able to contact 911 during an emergency because the phone was automatically disconnecting their calls. The Lenovo-owned company acknowledged the issue following a short investigation and promised affected customers that the problem will be eliminated come this week.

McKenzie now said that “the software patches were sent out to all affected users on Friday,” adding that “[the issue] should be resolved” by today. While the wording of Motorola Mobility’s latest statement doesn’t necessarily indicate that all Moto G5 Plus units on Verizon’s network were troubled by the bug preventing them from calling 911, the company’s initial response on the matter suggested that was the case. The original bug was in some way related to Verizon’s HD Voice service, the wireless carrier’s Voice over LTE (VoLTE) solution that allows users to make calls over the company’s 4G LTE network. Last week, owners of the Moto G5 Plus on Verizon’s network were encouraged to disable the “Enhanced 4G LTE Mode” on their devices until the issue is resolved, so anyone who already received a software update since Friday can now re-enable that functionality without worrying that they won’t be able to contact 911.

All Verizon’s subscribers who use the Moto G5 Plus and still haven’t received the crucial software update in the last three days are highly encouraged to search for one manually by launching the Settings app on their device, tapping the “About phone” menu and selecting the “System updates” option on the following screen. Doing so will provide them with the option to download the patch in case the software package wasn’t automatically pushed out to their device over the weekend. Neither Verizon nor Motorola Mobility detailed the actual cause of the bug, though it remains to be seen whether more details on the matter will be revealed in the coming days.
